Why Choose Banstead Prep?

Why choose Banstead Prep?

Choosing a school is a complex and personal decision and we want to provide all the information that you need to find the school that’s right for your child, and you as a family.  You’ll find more details in these pages, but here is a summary of what makes Banstead Prep special.

Academic Achievement

Our children make Excellent Academic Progress.  At the end of each key stage of education, Banstead Prep has more than twice the number of children working ‘At Greater Depth’ than the national benchmark.

Children move on from Banstead Prep to a wide range of selective independent senior schools and grammar schools as well as state secondary schools, reflecting our commitment to finding the right school for each individual and tailoring our support and preparation for 11+ assessments.

Broad Curriculum

By offering a modern education with a broad, future focused curriculum provided by specialist subject teachers in senior school standard facilities, we create opportunities for children to be excited by and truly engaged with their learning, which leads naturally to academic success.  This starts right from nursery and pre-school.

Facilities include a full-sized sports hall and all-weather surface sports pitch, science and STEM labs and drama and art studios. Technology is embedded in the classroom using iPads to support and enhance learning with creative activities, including individual devices for children in Years 3 – 6.

Diverse and Inclusive Community

ISI Inspectors visiting the school observed that “pupils of all backgrounds and cultures enjoy very constructive and inclusive relationships in a very diverse and well-integrated community” where “Pupils’ contributions to the wellbeing of others within the school are obvious, positive and highly effective.”  We are proud of how staff, parents and children work together.

Modern education for a bright future

We are preparing our children for their future success, not just at secondary school, but at university and the workplace beyond.  Whilst academic achievement plays an important part, the World Economic Forum says that employers are looking for broader skills and our curriculum explicitly and implicitly develops future skills through our eight Learner Powers.

In all areas of school life, pupils evaluate themselves against the eight habits which they know underpin powerful learning.  Pupils in all year groups understand these characteristics to be the behaviours which help them be the best that they can be. ISI Inspection November 2024
Pupils' attainment in all year groups is high in comparison to national norms. ISI Inspection November 2024
Pupils enjoy their education and thrive because explicit emphasis is placed on diversity and equality which supports the development of each pupil's self confidence and self-esteem. ISI Inspection November 2024
Teaching is characterised by teachers' secure subject knowledge, effective planning that facilitates a suitable pace of learning, and appropriately ambitious expectations for each pupil. ISI Inspection November 2024
