Banstead Prep School Celebrates Student Leadership at Oxford University
On Monday, 17th March, our Year 6 Heads of School proudly presented their social justice and leadership project at Oxford University. The project, inspired by the UN Sustainable Development Goals of No Poverty, Zero Hunger, and Good Health and Wellbeing, showcased our school’s dedication to making a positive impact.
The children organised a successful cake sale, raising over £200 for the charity ‘Hope 4 Malawi’. They eloquently explained their choice to support Malawi, the challenges faced during fundraising, and the profound impact the project had on their development as future leaders.
During their visit, the children toured the college, gaining insights into university life. They also participated in a ‘taster’ session on ‘exploring scientific materials,’ enriching their educational experience.
Key highlights of the project included:
- Project Planning: Children chose to focus on No Poverty, Zero Hunger, and Good Health and Wellbeing.
- Charity Selection: ‘Hope 4 Malawi’ was chosen due to its alignment with the selected goals.
- Research and Collaboration: Pupils researched Malawi and collaborated with charity members to determine the best ways to help.
- Community Engagement: Findings were communicated in a school assembly and through letters to parents.
- Fundraising Event: Children designed and executed a cake sale, managing recipes, groups, advertising, and the sale itself.
- Impact: The funds raised were designated to feed a child for a month, fostering leadership skills and social justice awareness among the students.
