What a week! One that has been out of this world, all helped by the very welcome presence of one of the larger stars in the solar system finally making an appearance! This week we celebrated and explored science, including space and the natural world, at every opportunity. Even better, we were able to share these activities with our whole school community through our STEM open evening.  The recurring themes from those events were how amazing the children are at demonstrating their knowledge and passion in science and technology, and how proud they are of what they are doing in every subject, and their school.

Led by the stellar Mrs Clark, the children experienced the Wonderdome as part of our science week celebrations. This is an immersive experience where they were able to explore the solar system like never before with the school hall transformed into a planetarium. We were proud that so many of our children got to enjoy this experience as the Wonderdome team normally only deliver the sessions to older children, but we strongly believe that learning about science should begin as early as possible and the enthusiasm and progress our children show in this subject is testament to the leadership and passion of all our teachers to bring STEM to life in exciting and engaging ways. All round the school, in every lesson, there were inspirational activities from model making and art to mathematical challenges and some beautiful extended writing, all embracing the Space and Solar system theme.

The organisation and planning required to create these learning opportunities should not be underestimated and I am incredibly grateful to the staff for their hard work. We are very lucky to have so many colleagues who embrace these activities – you only need to watch their enthusiasm to understand what incredibly powerful educational experiences our teachers are creating for the children. Experiences that will inspire, engage and deepen the learning and live very long in the memory!

It is fitting that the week should end with another highlight of the school year, and one of my favourite events, as we welcomed grandparents and special friends into school. The children absolutely love to show off their school and their work; watching these interactions is a real joy. We had an amazing turn out and it was lovely to welcome so many visitors and thank them for the support they give the children.

All in all, so much to be proud of this week – thank you to everyone that made it so.  Have a lovely weekend!
